As Chairman and CEO Mr. Roberts leads RED CAPITAL GROUP, LLC, including Red Mortgage Capital, LLC, Red Capital Markets, LLC, and Red Capital Partners, LLC, RED’s mortgage banking, investment banking, and proprietary investment/third party capital management businesses, respectively. He has 35 years experience in real estate, project finance, investment banking, public finance, and direct investments. His accomplishments include the development of MBIA’s largest bond insurance program, organizing a commercial real estate finance, servicing and CMBS investment joint venture between Banc One Corporation and ORIX Corporation, the personal direction as sole manager of more than 400 multifamily housing bond issues, the personal direction as bookrunning senior manager of a number of municipal bond issues in excess of $500 million each, the personal direction of over 150 project financings involving FHA mortgage insurance, the organization of RED CAPITAL GROUP, LLC in 2000, and the orchestrating of the acquisition of the firm from a major bank holding company in 2010.
Prior to organizing RED CAPITAL GROUP, LLC, Mr. Roberts served variously as Chairman and CEO of Banc One Capital Funding Corporation, Co-Chairman of Banc One Mortgage Capital Markets, and Vice Chairman of Banc One Capital Markets, Inc. Prior to his tenure with Bank One, he co-founded Cranston Securities Company and Cranston Mortgage Company in Columbus, Ohio in 1979 for which firms he served as President and subsequently as Chairman. Following their sale in 1987, Mr. Roberts worked with Westpac/Pollock (a primary government securities dealer) in New York. He started in the business in 1973 with Colonial Mortgage Company and its successor, Waterfield Mortgage Company, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Mr. Roberts was graduated with Honors from Indiana University and holds a Masters Degree from the University of Notre Dame where he was a University Fellow. In June 2007, he was honored by Ohio Cancer Research Associates at its annual “Star Gala” with OCRA’s “Star Award” for his community service, particularly in connection with the fight against cancer. In August of 2007 he was honored as National Leader of the Month by LeaderNetwork.org joining notable leaders such as Lou Holtz, John Wooden, Herb Kelleher, Mike Krzyzewski and Ken Blanchard. Through The Roberts Family Fund (created in 1996) at The Columbus Foundation the Roberts family has supported many educational, civic, environmental and community service organizations.
Mr. Roberts has served on the Board of The Buckeye Boys Ranch, as Treasurer, Finance Committee Chair, and Vice-Chairman of the Board of The Wellington School, on the Board of Boston Financial Group, and on The Foundation Board of The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. Currently Mr. Roberts serves on the Campaign Board of Ohio Cancer Research Associates and on the Advisory Board of The Wallick Companies.
